Music

Here at Sunshine Day Care we have a wonderfully diverse music program that caters to everyone from Nursery to Pre-school to Kindergarten. I designed this program to enhance the lessons the children are receiving in the classroom.

Over the course of the year, the children also participate in a large-scale theatre production introducing them to the elements of musical theatre. Our students are well adjusted to the limelight by the time they leave us!

We ask that the parents stay involved in music education by encouraging them to practice and helping them complete homework assignments. We also encourage parents to come to one or all of our productions. They serve as fundraisers to support the extra curricular activities Sunshine provides at no additional cost. Here is a breakdown of what all of our students are doing in music at Sunshine!

Nurseries

We sing, we dance, and we play to prepare ourselves for the next level of music and dance, improve motor skills, and to express ourselves!

Yellow Room, Fast Track, Green Room

Music, Movement, and Basic Theory

We sing songs that encourage growth and understanding of otherwise advanced topics. We are also learning music vocabulary, how to recognize different instruments, and identifying basic music notation.

Rainbow Room, Pink Room, Blue Room, Peach Room

We are learning to play different instruments, in addition to various related musical skills.

Over the Course of a School Year We will learn:

Music Vocabulary

Identifying basic rhythms and Patterns:

• Quarter Notes, Half Notes, Whole Notes
• Quarter Rests, Half Rests, Whole Rests
• Measures, Bar lines, and Repeat Signs
• Dynamics! Pianissimo, Piano, Mezzo Piano, Forte, Fortissimo

Identifying Instruments by sight and sound

In additional to all this learning, we make plenty of time for fun sing-a-longs, games, and activities!
